Helix Antenna Based Solutions
When lives depend on it, resilience and accuracy matter in safety-critical applications
Lives and global economies now depend on satellite PNT services. Helix creates the downstream technology that enables GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) to be used with precision and confidence in a wide array of applications including aerospace, security, critical infrastructure, satellite communications and autonomous transportation (drones and driverless cars).
All of these applications are critical to preserving national security, enabling improved livelihood and lifestyles, and contributing to the protection of planet Earth’s precious resources.

How we achieve resilient centimetre accuracy for GNSS

We have developed and patent-protected a completely novel approach to creating the smallest antennas capable of delivering world-beating performance for GNSS and terrestrial or satellite data communications. It combines material science, RF innovation, and precision manufacturing, and we call it DielectriX.
Solving GNSS/GPS vulnerabilities
Helix’s super-resilient DielectriX™ antennas mitigate against PNT disruption caused by disruptive multi-path signals, interference from the crowded RF spectrum and environmental electrical noise. We enable small form factor IoT, handheld and wearable devices to determine precise position, anywhere on Earth, even in the harshest environments.
Our hardware platforms run sophisticated self-correcting algorithms to provide layers of resilience against malicious jamming and spoofing attempts to disrupt PNT. Ultimately, we use mini-arrays, or our antennas to locate and null sources of interference, such as jamming and spoofing, and IMU data fusion to provide PNT redundancy when satellite signals are unavailable.
Our antennas and systems defeat the threats and overcome the vulnerabilities of today’s GNSS services and enable the next generation of low earth orbit (LEO) PNT capabilities. In addition to standard off-the-shelf variants, Helix develops application-specific GNSS antennas and solutions for specialist customers in the defence and aerospace sectors.

Satellite and terrestrial wireless communications 1-2GHz
Data communications in the L-band
L-band is used for numerous satellite communication services such as Iridium’s voice and data communications, Satelles STL services and many proprietary communications systems. A key benefit of the 1-2GHz frequency band in these applications is that it is unaffected by atmospheric moisture and rain. When used in conjunction with a LEO constellation with polar orbit satellites this means reliable data links can be delivered anywhere on land, sea, or polar ice caps.
Helix offers DielectriX™ antenna variants for Iridium and Satelles STL services as off-the-shelf items, and can develop application specific L-band antennas for any customers’ application.

Helix antennas are primarily designed to have a cardioid radiation pattern, but through control of resonance in the dielectric core, Helix can also create isoflux radiation patterns with low-elevation angle gain accentuated, while still maintaining good gain in the overhead. This is ideal for tracking LEO satellite constellations, and also for terrestrial point-to-point communications networks. We work closely with our customers to establish and implement the optimum radiation patter for each application.
